Welcome

According the Encyclopedia Britannica Online, Pike fish are renown for their “elongate body, small scales, long head, shovel-like snout, and large mouth armed with strong teeth. The dorsal and anal fins are far back on the tail.” While I suppose it depends on whom you talk to, I don’t exactly live up to my name. Yes, I am quite tall, but in all other areas I’m woefully lacking—especially anal fins.

To my knowledge neither my immediate family nor myself possess this rare physical attribute. In fact only one long, lost relative—my great, great uncle Aldrydd of Wales—ever admitted to growing any pinna analis, and it is only with somber tones and shuffled feet that we mention his name at reunions.

No, I’m afraid I make a poor Pike physically speaking. However, while poor, I am still quite proud. Perhaps with the aide of the interweb and my periodic thoughts, we can reform what it means to be a Pike—leaving all those silly and ill-placed fins in my family’s shady evolutionary past. Hopefully, this exercise in identity shifting will prove enjoyable to you, my friends, family, and random Internet stalkers.

Best Wishes,
Sam Pike
